The aim of this paper is to present the research of Enrico Marchi on supercritical flow in tight bends to the international hydraulic engineering community. The significance of his research lies in the discovery and characterization of an interesting hydraulic phenomenon; i.e., the backwater effects of supercritical flow in a straight-approach flow channel followed by a bend.
