We reported the observation and photo-physical characterization of NIR-emitting single colour centres in both optical-grade single-crystal and electronic-grade poly-crystalline commercial CVD diamond samples. The observation in commercially available ‘ standard type IIa ’ and ‘ electronic-grade ’ CVD diamonds of ef fi cient native NIR colour centres emitting fully polarized light in a convenient spectral range, with no need for speci fi c sample processing (i.e. doping from vapour phase or by ion implantation), offers appealing perspectives in the fields of diamond-based single-photon emitters and quantum optics.

Abstract
