This paper introduces additional results to those concerning the quasi-real-time estimation of rain rate through an opportunistic Ka-band satellite link, which has been recently presented. The focus of the present work is on the dependence of the proposed method from some model's parameters such as the clouds base height and the integration time for the received signal. The upgrade of the model is presented and its employment with a new set of collected data is presented. The results are interpreted through a comparison with measurements from a small network of rain gauges.

Abstract

This paper introduces additional results to those concerning the quasi-real-time estimation of rain rate through an opportunistic Ka-band satellite link, which has been recently presented. The focus of the present work is on the dependence of the proposed method from some model's parameters such as the clouds base height and the integration time for the received signal. The upgrade of the model is presented and its employment with a new set of collected data is presented. The results are interpreted through a comparison with measurements from a small network of rain gauges.
