The contribution sets the task of studying the evolution and transformation of the classroom of elementary school during the Italian Fascist period, with the aim to highlight the role that the teaching aids and school furniture have played in the construction of national identity. In fact, from the materialist conception of his- tory theorized by Engels and Marx, it has developed a line of research in historical and anthropological that goes under the name of material culture, which aims to understand the subject-object dichotomy. Nowdays, the material culture lends itself as a breeding ground for numerous studies, even historical and pedagogical. What interests me here is to highlight the opportunity to reread the history of education through a new category of interpretation, the school materiality, maybe able to enrich the sector studies.
