This study investigates the relationship between smells and words in Luigi Meneghello’s "Maredè, maredè…", framing it within the context of his overall literary production. Starting from this analysis, sense of smells stands out in a triple aspect: physical, psychological and social. Sensorial perceptions always hint at the scatological and the corporeal. The essay also looks at the linguistic interactions of the Venet dialect from Vicenza, standard Italian language, and English as played out in the lexis and smell.
