The paper will introduce to the first results of an investigation on manufacturing activities in Tuscany in 1835 by means of GIS technology since its beginnings a few years ago. By cross-checking geo-referenced maps and data provided by historical registers preserved at the State Archives of Tuscany, new databases were developed permitting to exactly locate all known opifici in their original positions.
