Cardiac ultrasound at the bedside: the power of videos in medical education

Echocardiography performed at the bedside allowed Melchio et al. [1] to rapidly reach the diagnosis of hepatopulmonary syndrome, the classic triad being: the presence of chronic liver disease; gas exchange abnormalities with significant hypoxemia or an increase of alveolar–arterial oxygen gradient; and right-to-left intrapulmonary shunt. The main values of the present report stem in recognising the importance of echocardiography as an expertise by internists, and the effectiveness of a video to clearly communicate a diagnostic result.
