In choosing between an object-based and a content-based conception of Husserl‟s notion of noema, there are two questions at stake: reconstructing the relations between phenomenology and analytic philosophy from the historico-interpretative viewpoint, and addressing the theoretical problem of the choice between realism and anti-realism in phenomenology. In adhering to the traditional interpretation provided by Gurwitch and in consequently challenging the perspective initiated by Føllesdal‟s 1969 essay, this paper uses the opportunity to take stock of both these questions and to introduce a further protagonist, crucial to an adequate interpretation of the notion of noema, in the form of the living body.
