ABSTRACT: In this work the effects of partial-height infill panels on the seismic response of RC frames have been investigated with reference to two different analytical approaches, i.e. a Finite Element (FE) model and alternative diagonal strut macro-models. In the first part of the work the proposed models have been calibrated by comparing their results to the experimental behavior of two real half-scaled RC frames, respectively bare and totally infilled. In this comparison, seven different strut models have been considered, and three different strut-types, respectively having 1, 2 and 3 struts, have been taken into account. Moreover, the strength of the strut has been quantified after the assumption of alternative collapse mechanisms of the panel. On the basis of the calibration analysis, a further investigation has been performed, focused on partial-height infill panels, having an height equal to 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 of the total one, respectively. The FE and the strut models have provided similar results for the global response of the system. The partial height infill panels do not significantly affect the seismic response of the frame for height below 1/4 of the total. However, the higher panels induce a remarkable increase in the global response.
