“Streamer” is a research project funded in cooperation with the EU that aims to reduce the energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions of the large healthcare districts by 50%; the project includes the construction or refurbishment of buildings within these districts. The success of the project relies on advanced planning instru- ments able to direct the choices of the decision makers and management of the large hospital groups towards energy efficiency. These instruments examine and optimise the integument and the organization of the buildings, the medical systems and equipment and the infrastructure network system across the entire healthcare district and its surroundings. AOU Careggi has made the strategic decision to involve the University of Florence as third party in the project, providing access, for research purposes, to an advanced computerised and geographi- cally referenced system. The objective is to implement the results of the “Streamer” project in this system and use it to support all decision stages involving its buildings, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and promoting efficient functionality.
