The Role of Open Spaces in the transformation of urban landscape

In 2013, an International Conference on the topic of the design and management of the Urban Landscape was held in Berlin. It was promoted by the Laboratory for Research on the City of the University of Bologna, together with the MEDDE French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture of Berlin, UNISCAPE, the City of Bologne, The University of Marche, the SER.IN.AR Forlì-Cesena and the European Union National Institutes for Culture of Berlin. The conference had two principal objectives: 1. to reflect on the results of past projects and experiences regrading the organization of urban open space; 2. to propose new possible directions for the planning, designing and management of urban landscape. With the objective of promote another moment of interdisciplinary comparison, the book published the contributions collected and revised one year after the conference, proposing them in a thematic articulation different but complementary to that of the meeting. The intention is to offer an additional key to analyzing the role of the open spaces in the processes of urbanization.
