This paper considers issues that connect the philosophical discussion about the nature of truth with logical investigations over the outcoming truth theories. In particular, we focus on topics related to the evaluation of deflationism, which is possibly the most popular and debated view in the field at the moment. Beside the general discussion on the axiomatic approach to the problem (as opposed to others, such as the semantical one), we explain how the (philosophical) ideas of truth contributing to the expressivity of languages, and truth being insubstantial have been interpreted at the formal level. Finally, this is used for supporting the opinion according to which deflationism still lacks some conceptual analysis that could make it more definite as a viable way to truth.
