Tra norma e variazione: allora, ora e poi in Vite de’ più eccellenti pittori scultori e architettori di Giorgio Vasari. Un’analisi in ottica contrastiva con il tedesco.

The paper aims to offer a contribution to the contrastive grammar studies Italian-German. The study focuses on three Italian connectives (allora, ora, poi) and their translation into German. The analysis is conducted from a syntactic and semantic point of view and is based on selected text passages from Vite de’ più eccellenti pittori scultori e architettori da Cimabue all’anno 1567 (1568) by Giorgio Vasari. The choice of the text has two grounds: the frequent occurrence of the examined structures and the high variability of syntactic and semantic functions they assume in the text. The paper is divided into 4 parts: Chapter 1 introduces into the history of Vite’s fortune in Italy and in Germany and shows some stylistic features of this text, whose versatility represents a good ground for empirical-based linguistic analyses. Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 describe the outcomes of the analysis conducted on the Italian text and its translation into German. In Chapter 4 are presented some final considerations, which can be helpful also for the translation science and the grammar description of Italian and German languages.
