Haruo Nishimoto recent visit in Italy (September 2015) with two coworkers, searching for information about prof. There are numbers of examples of vegetal species correlated with slope stability (Hofmann, 1936; Hofmann, 1955) confirmed in their role by the latest research results (Guastini and Preti, 2013; Walker and Shields, 2013; Errico et al., 2014; Guastini et al. 2014a and 2014b); in the same way, recommendations about their diffusion uphold the outcomes of new scientific tests. Maybe is more interesting to note how the mountain watershed habitat restoration combine the current department researches and the Hofmann activities. In the present days, the opportunity of such an approach is shown through the inspection of soil bioengineering structures after 10-15 years since their installation. The Hofmann’s view came from his double education in hydraulic engineering and silviculturist: the first from his experience, with Wang as a mentor, in the Austrian ministerial department for mountain watershed management (culminated with the vice director designation in 1918); the latter strengthened during the forestry management of state-owned areas ran by the special Italian State Agency, of which he became general director in 1926.
