A proposito di Charlie Hebdo. Tolleranza e violenza religiosa

In the first part, the article reconstructs the features of the European interpretation of tolerance and the limits on freedom of expression as defined in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and in the document of the Venice commission of the Council of Europe. The author argues that the Court has on several occasions applied in a discriminatory manner the rights recognized in the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. In the second part the author holds that it is never possible to deduce from a worldview (religious or not) neither a particular political outcome, nor any kind of invariant practical attitude about the use of violence, tolerance of diversity, respect for the dignity of persons.
