Abstract
About fifty years ago, a sandstone cippocomes inMugellovalley, along the Sieve River. Today the stone is exposed took the Archaeological Museum of the Territory in Dicomano. The permanence in the river damagedits surface; however, it was possible to make a detailed graphic and photographic documentation of its bas-reliefs. The analysis of the decorative apparatus and considerations on its original appearance allows referring the artefact at the beginning of the archaic period, among the oldest evidence of Etruscan sculpture of the Fiesole territory. The attempt to recreate the main frieze and the stylistic details revealed connections with some contemporary sculptures of the Chiusinearea. Finally, the original presence of a base can compare the cippo with others monuments recently discovered and to suggest some hypotheses on the development of these funerary markers, leading to believe the stone of Barberino is the incunabulum of the whole series.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
