The paper presents the contribution of Geomatics to the RiSEM (Seismic Risk of Monumental Buildings) project and illustrates the metric survey that was conducted on several towers in San Gimignano. 3D models and others graphical documentation supported the seismic vulnerability assessment, as required by Italian regulations. After the evaluation of still available databases, laser scanning technique was chosen for acquiring 3D and high resolution data, providing an exhaustive description, albeit limited to the external walls, of the towers under investigation. Different graphical output have been defined for documentation purposes, describing the geometric characteristics of the towers, and for the assessment of structure’s stability, through the accurate analysis of the structures.
