One of the most important aspects regarding the design of a simulator is the validation of its outputs. This paper deals with the aspects connected to the validation of a weather polarimetric Doppler radar simulator through the analysis of the behavior of the polarimetric observables that it generates. Well established relationships commonly used in the meteorological community have been considered for the validation process, jointly with the way the microphysical parameters impact on reflectivity. Results show a good grade of reliability of the simulator in the realistic representation of the radar observations and its exploitability for further advancements in the sector.

Abstract

One of the most important aspects regarding the design of a simulator is the validation of its outputs. This paper deals with the aspects connected to the validation of a weather polarimetric Doppler radar simulator through the analysis of the behavior of the polarimetric observables that it generates. Well established relationships commonly used in the meteorological community have been considered for the validation process, jointly with the way the microphysical parameters impact on reflectivity. Results show a good grade of reliability of the simulator in the realistic representation of the radar observations and its exploitability for further advancements in the sector.
