The use of lignocellulosic biomass for the production of electricity and heat for processes of agricultural supply chains, represents a great opportunity for both the exploitation of local resources, and for the implementation of a strategy for climate change mitigation. The study proposes the analysis of the carbon footprint, through LCA approach (Life Cycle Assessment), of a short and local wood-energy supply chain. The chain starts with the production of wood chips with innovative processes, and ends with the production of electricity and heat used by a livestock farm that produces high-quality milk.
