CARBON FOOTPRINT OF A AGROENERGY LOCAL SUPPLY CHAIN IN THE TUSCANY APENNINES (CARBON FOOPRINT DI UNA FILIERA LOCALE AGROENERGETICA NELL’APPENNINO TOSCANO)

The use of lignocellulosic biomass for the production of electricity and heat for processes of agricultural supply chains, represents a great opportunity for both the exploitation of local resources, and for the implementation of a strategy for climate change mitigation. The study proposes the analysis of the carbon footprint, through LCA approach (Life Cycle Assessment), of a short and local wood-energy supply chain. The chain starts with the production of wood chips with innovative processes, and ends with the production of electricity and heat used by a livestock farm that produces high-quality milk.
