Technological culture, theories and practice in architectural design | Cultura tecnologica, teorie e prassi del progetto di architettura

Tre termini definiscono, con riferimento al progetto di architettura, l’ambito delle questioni proposte e trattate in questa “tavola rotonda” ospitata nel dossier della rivista: cultura, teorie e prassi. Il termine cultura è specificato: cultura tecnologica. Il mio testo introduce questa sorta di “tavola rotonda”, come mi sembra si possa definire in questo numero il “dossier”, intorno alla quale diversi autori sono stati invitati a esprimere la loro posizione. Il mio ruolo è quello di introdurre il tema prima di dare voce alle diverse posizioni. L’ottica non sarà esclusivamente disciplinare, benché non si ritenga né inutile né superata la riflessione all’interno della comunità scientifica della tecnologia dell’architettura, necessaria a motivare ancora la sua identità e a fare evolvere la sua cultura, le sue teorie, la prassi scientifica e professionale di chi si pensa come “tecnologo dell’architettura”. Mi soffermerò da prima sulla relazione fra teorie e prassi nel progetto, per poi provare a delineare come queste si rapportino e promuovano una cultura del progetto. Gli attori sono i ricercatori e i professionisti, le organizzazioni e le comunità sociali in cui operano, a seconda delle proprie conoscenze e competenze, dei campi di azione. Proverò poi a proporre cosa a mio avviso contraddistingua le conoscenze, gli approcci e le capacità “tecnologiche” in architettura e se in questo ambito la tendenza alla divaricazione fra cultura, teorie e prassi sia sempre più rilevante, e quali le cause. Fra queste accennerò ad un tema che richiederà altro spazio per essere sviluppato: quello della comunicazione fra gli “attori”: comunicazione scientifica, trasferimento di conoscenze, dialettica fra progetto e ricerca. - Culture, theory and practice are three terms referring to architectural design that define the scope of the questions posed and examined in this “round table” contained in the dossier of the journal. The term culture is specified as technological culture. My contribution introduces this sort of “round table,” which seems to be a fitting definition for the “dossier” in this issue, around which various authors were invited to state their position. My role is to introduce the topic beforegiving voice to the different positions.The perspective will not be solely discipline-based, although reflection on architectural technology within the scientific community is not considered needless or outdated as it is necessary even now to explain its identity and ensure the evolution of its culture andtheories and the scientific and professional practice of those who think of themselves as “architectural technologists.” I will focus first on the relationship between theories and practice in design, and then attempt to outline how these relate to and encourage a design culture. The key players are researchers and professionals, organizations and the social communities in which they operate, according to their knowledge and skills, within the spheres of action. I will then attempt to suggest what, in my view, distinguishes knowledge, approaches and “technological” skills in architecture and whether, in this context, the tendency for culture, theories and practice to diverge is increasingly significant, and the underlying causes. I will touch upon a topic that requires more room for development, namely communication between “key players”: scientific communication, knowledge transfer, and dialectics between design and research.
