The Autism Spectrum Disorders represents a complex developmental disability, characterized by deficit of communication skills, by restricted interests and by repetitive behaviors. The Augmentative Alternative Communication systems (AAC) presents opportunities for the development of social and adaptive skills, cause of correspondences with specific aspects of the cognitive profile associated with the disorders. This paper present a randomized study oriented to the validation of the effectiveness of a structured CAA training on a sample of young adults (N = 8, mean age = 31.33) with severe Autism Spectrum Disorders. Results confirm the efficacy of the AAC systems for the development of adaptive and communicative skills.

Abstract
