Sasso Pisano district, in the Maremma territory (Pisa - Italy), is characterized by the presence of large areas of historical interest, Neolithic, Etruscan, Roman, Barbaric and Medieval. In a territory that before the establishment of industrial activities, that channelled the available steam from underground for the production of renewable energy, was deeply characterized by particular geothermal manifestations (putizze, fumaroles, and boiling waters) that fed age-old Etruscan and Roman thermal pools, especially close to the village of Sasso Pisano, into the so-called ‘Valley of the Devil’. At the site ‘Il Bagno’ was discovered an important Etruscan/Roman Sacro-thermal complex, that used the curative properties of hot water and minerals from the natural geothermal activity. This tradition has been "handed down" thanks to the use of geothermal as a "source of renewable energy". Our project thanks to an ‘integrated protection process’, starting from the recent conservative interventions made on the Sacred-thermal complex so-called ‘Il Bagno’, aims to create, through the study of the use of geothermal energy, an archaeological-scientific-naturalistic park, connected to the natural history of the site to its modifications, from Etruscan times up today.

Abstract
Our project thanks to an ‘integrated protection process’, starting from the recent conservative interventions made on the Sacred-thermal complex so-called ‘Il Bagno’, aims to create, through the study of the use of geothermal energy, an archaeological-scientific-naturalistic park, connected to the natural history of the site to its modifications, from Etruscan times up today.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
