This review aims to analyze the latest scientific publications on workaholism, in order to identify possible areas to examine regarding its conceptualization, its consequences, its antecedents and interventions for its treatment and its prevention. We found that a shared definition is still lacking, despite the new conceptualizations and the new instruments proposed. Furthermore, the analysis of organizational antecedents is a research area still understudied, as well as that relating to the treatment and prevention of addiction to work. We conclude that currently it is necessary to establish a common definition that would allow a more accurate knowledge of the phenomenon of workaholism.

Abstract

This review aims to analyze the latest scientific publications on workaholism, in order to identify possible areas to examine regarding its conceptualization, its consequences, its antecedents and interventions for its treatment and its prevention. We found that a shared definition is still lacking, despite the new conceptualizations and the new instruments proposed. Furthermore, the analysis of organizational antecedents is a research area still understudied, as well as that relating to the treatment and prevention of addiction to work. We conclude that currently it is necessary to establish a common definition that would allow a more accurate knowledge of the phenomenon of workaholism.
