In this study, the frequency of brain perivenular lesions (PV) was evaluated in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases (SAD) with inflammatory vasculopathies involving brain and compared to that found in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The frequency of PVL is remarkably higher in MS than in CNS vasculitis, suggesting that this marker can be efficiently explored by MRI even at low field strength and can help in differential diagnosis between these two CNS disorders.

Abstract

In this study, the frequency of brain perivenular lesions (PV) was evaluated in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases (SAD) with inflammatory vasculopathies involving brain and compared to that found in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The frequency of PVL is remarkably higher in MS than in CNS vasculitis, suggesting that this marker can be efficiently explored by MRI even at low field strength and can help in differential diagnosis between these two CNS disorders.
