A statistical and a physically based approach are described to retrieve 2D rainfall fields exploiting the attenuation measurements made along satellite links at Ka and Ku bands, in the framework of the NEFOCAST research project . The retrieval algorithms, the main results obtained so far, and the ongoing test campaign are presented and discussed.

Abstract
