Rethinking Aristophanes’ Comic Hero: Utopianism, Ambiguity, and Athenian Politics

Il contributo tenta una riconsiderazione del c.d. ‘eroismo comico’ nelle commedie superstiti di Aristofane, mostrando che, dopo l’ambigiìuo ed inquietante Pisetero degli Uccelli, il poeta non sembra credere più alla possibilità che una qualche sorta di ‘salvatore’ emerga dalla sbandata moltitudine dei cittadini ateniesi. ---------- This paper aims to reconsider the so-called ‘comic heroism’ in Aristophanes’ extant plays, showing that, after the ambiguous, disquieting Peisetaerus of the Birds, the poet appears not to believe any longer that any kind of ‘saviour’ might emerge from the erratic mass of Athenian male citizens.
