To evaluate the prognostic role of perioperative MI on in–hospital and long–term mortality in patients with hip fracture. Myocardial infarction (MI) in patients undergoing elective non–cardiac surgery is often clinically silent and can be detected by ECG changes and serial measurement of cardiac troponin . Methods ; 99 hip fracture patients (mean age 86.7 years) with Troponin I (TnI) levels ≥ 0.5 μg/L (normal value for laboratory 0.02–0.06 μg/L) were enrolled by the multidisciplinary hip fracture team of AOU Careggi , Firenze.
