Abstract

The performance evaluation of a fast packet switching satellite communication network is discussed. Different alternatives for the uplink access technique as well as for the architecture of the on board fast packet switching fabric are considered. The performance of the on board fast packet switching fabric was derived through computer simulation and theoretical analysis. An important result shown is that by means of a novel proposed approach it is possible to reduce the onboard switching delay without increasing the switch fabric complexity.
