In 2003 the historic and architectural joint of Viçosa do Ceará downtown, located at north region of Ceará State was classified as Brazilian national heritageby Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN). Between several historic buildings, the Nossa Senhora das Vitórias Church, commonly called do Céu Church, is one of the most important heritage constructions. The church construction was started in 1935 and by support of the local community was completed in 1938. This historical construction has very important artistic, cultural and social to the Viçosa do Ceará downtown people and as any other construction the church is under material decaying process. This way, this work has as main aim to characterize the damages mechanisms of the church and to analyze its currently conservation state. For that, in situ inspections were carried out with photographic records of the main damages founded on the construction and a damage mapping of the structure was done. The found results present contribution to study of the damages mechanisms that affect historical buildings, as well present impact to promotion of the monitoring techniques applied to structural assessment.
