Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease responsible for more than 100.000 deaths per year worldwide, affecting prevalently the low-income countries. However, in 2017, more than 21,000 measles cases have been reported in 53 countries of the European Region. Outbreaks were localized in 15 countries, although the highest numbers of infected people were described in Romania (5562), Italy (5006) and Ukraine (4767).
