The State-Trait Cheerfulness Inventory (STCI) has been translated into 12 different languages and measures the temperamental basis of humour, as cheerfulness, seriousness, and bad-mood plays a prominent role in exhilaratability and explains 90% of the variance in sense of humour. The present study aims to validate the recently developed STCI Italian version. The STCI English version underwent a backtranslation process into Italian by four bilingual specialists. Next, a sample of 300 undergraduate students at the University of Florence will be recruited in April 2018 to complete the STCI, and confirmatory factor analyses will be conducted to evaluate whether the Italian version measures equivalent latent variables (i.e., cheerfulness, bad mood, seriousness). Convergent and discriminant validity is further assessed with the Life Orientation Test – Revised, Pearlin-Schooler Mastery Scale, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. This research supports recent calls to replicate psychological research cross-culturally and would further inform conceptualization of trait cheerfulness.
