The archaeological site of Rocca San Silvestro is a medieval fortified village located in southern Tuscany (Italy), in the municipality of Campiglia Marittima (LI), within the protected area of the Val di Cornia parks. Founded approximately in the X century A.D. by the will of the counts of Della Gherardesca, Rocca San Silvestro was a stronghold established to control the extraction, the transformation and the traffic of the mineral resources present in the area, becoming in this way, under the Pisa domination, trade conrnerstone of the tuscanian coast. Abandoned for various factors towards the end of the XIV century, since 1984, under the direction of the archaeologist R. Francovich, the castle has undergone extensive excavations with the purpose of the reconstruction of the history of this settlement. The present work, starting from the state of the art of research that up to now have involved the site, has set the following aims: to integrate the documentation of previous surveys and to create a database of the works on which to set up a future project of restoration of the site, which is already part of an important archaelogical park. The Archaelogical Mines Park of Rocca San Silvestro, founded in 1996, represents in fact an important example of musealization of the archaeological-mining areas, thus contributing to the protection and development of tourism in this area. The first phase of the thesis work has provided the laser scanner survey campaigns and those relating to the photographic documentation, for data acquisition. With the digital processing of data, a cloud of points including the entire site was created, to which a series of photogrammetric models was correlated. After having verified the reliability of the surveys, the final results were drawn up, and on the basis of these, the whole spectrum of diagnostic analysis was conducted. In parallel, it has been developed the stratigraphic analysis of the masonry structures, in order to identify the chronology of development and the characterization of the construction techniques.
