This article first retraces the path that brought to the inauguration of the Puhuasi Chinese Buddhist temple in Prato (Italy), supported by the local immigrated Wenzhouenese community; then it analyzes the social ‘function’ of the Puhuasi temple, both within the city and within the local Chinese communities.
