Among the humanists of the first generation, Sozomeno of Pistoia (1387-1458) is worth noticing both from the perspective of the recovery of the classical heritage and from a palaeographical and codicological perspective, that is the history of handwriting anf humanistic book production. Thanks to a project supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia and the University of Florence, a comprehensive study on Sozomeno's activity has been carried out, so that our knowledge of him as intellectual, copyist and book collector has deepened. This paper focuses on Sozomeno as copyist. In illustrating Sozomeno's graphic culture, it offers an overview of his life and cultural environment, referring mostly to his library.Then, thanks to some remarkable dated examples, it shows how Sozomeno changes his handwriting from gothic models ('littera moderna') to humanistic models ('littera antiqua') and his ability to write both book and cursive scripts
