The inhibition of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on anammox-enriched biomass was studied. The experimental results proved the strong inhibition of anammox by unionized H2S. The loss of activity of anammox was pH and H2S dependent. A new mathematical model was developed to describe the effects of H2S and pH. The estimated inhibition coefficient of H2S, Ki,H2S, was low (4.9 mg H2S L−1).
