Derk Pereboom argues for a source incompatibilist view of moral responsability. His “manipulation argument” employs a generalization strategy aimed to point out the continuity of our intuitions between cases where the agent is induced by “external forces” to make some choice and the normal condition where human agents’ behaviour is governed by universal determinism. This paper tries to show that Pereboom’s strategy is flawed and there are relevant moral differences between manipulation and determination.

Abstract
Derk Pereboom argues for a source incompatibilist view of moral responsability. His “manipulation argument” employs a generalization strategy aimed to point out the continuity of our intuitions between cases where the agent is induced by “external forces” to make some choice and the normal condition where human agents’ behaviour is governed by universal determinism. This paper tries to show that Pereboom’s strategy is flawed and there are relevant moral differences between manipulation and determination.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
