Dallo sbarco al monumento. Garibaldi a Vada tra storia e memoria

The paper initially reconstructs the reasons that led - after the escape from Caprera - Garibaldi and fellow-soldiers to choose Vada as a place for landing on the continent, to reach the papal border. He then goes on to explain how the memory of that event represented a fundamental moment in the political formation of the people of the Leghorn's Maremma, which reached its peak in October 1886, with the activities for the construction and inauguration of the monument to Garibaldi, promoted by Diego Martelli and solemnized with an epigraph by Giosué Carducci.
