This article examines the lesser-known figure of Leon Battista Alberti's brother, Carlo. It furnishes new archival evidence of Carlo's business activities in England and Italy between the 1430s and 1440s. Furthermore, this paper suggests that Leon Battista's «De commodis litterarum atque incommodis», addressed to Carlo, was written not in 1428 or 1429, as is currently believed, but after January 1432.
