This paper discusses the possibility of estimating speed and general features useful for the classification of vehicles traveling under the beam of FM-CW radar placed on the top of a motorway gate. The classification algorithm makes use of a Physical Optics approximation to build an echo radar database that is taken as reference to refine the parameters estimation obtained with the measured data.

Abstract
