Soil sealing is considered among the most dangerous of land degradation processes on global and local scale. In the already intensely urbanized countries, such as those of the Mediterranean basin, the rate of soil sealing is among the highest and this alters the superficial outflow in both quantitative and qualitative terms, determining direct effects on the physico-chemical characteristics of the soil and it has effects, also important, on the micro and mesoclimatic characteristics by affecting the intensity of the urban heat islands, that is a direct function of the percentage of paved surface.

Abstract
Soil sealing is considered among the most dangerous of land degradation processes on global and local scale. In the already intensely urbanized countries, such as those of the Mediterranean basin, the rate of soil sealing is among the highest and this alters the superficial outflow in both quantitative and qualitative terms, determining direct effects on the physico-chemical characteristics of the soil and it has effects, also important, on the micro and mesoclimatic characteristics by affecting the intensity of the urban heat islands, that is a direct function of the percentage of paved surface.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
