In this manuscript the first results of the project VIAA (Innovative Nursery cultivation for High Adaptability) are presented. Nursery stock of three species of gen. Quercus (Q. robur, Q. pubescens, Q. ilex) was grown in two different substrates (peat and coconut fiber) in combination with three fertilizations (nursery standard – considered as control -, and the remaining two using different formulas with more P and with more K) in order to test their performance in hydric stress condition. The main results related to the analysis of both morphological and physiological traits showed a general higher performance by the seedling growing in peat than in coconut fiber and by those that were fertilized with more K. The seedlings will be tested during 2018 in hydric stress condition to assess the ability to survive and grow in occurrence of a harsh dry season; only after this further step it will be possible to provide a quality assessment of the studied nursery stock.
