Abstract

A radar set was designed and built in our Institution to study echoes from meteor trails. The data observed were essentially: range, duration, and type of each eco. Here the results are described of theoretical studies undertaken to derive formulas that, by comparison with experimental data, allow one to derive information on the physics and astronomy of meteors. General expressions are given in the case of: sporadic meteors, heliocentri radiants uniformly distributed over the celestial sphere, heliocentric radiants uniformly distributed in the plane of the ecliptic, meteor shower.
