The garden designed by APS landscape architects as an extension of the MUCEM is a botanical promenade crossing through the fortress of Saint Jean, a historical military base on the port. A symbolically stratified place containing the memory of the Crusaders who sailed to the Holy Land from here. The promenade-garden has been conceived as an essentially communicative space characterized by suspended walkways, routes at height and through-ways which have transformed the impregnable spaces of Fort Saint Jean in an essential node of pedestrian traffic in today’s city: two suspended walkway in fact rapidly connect the roof of the Museum with the Panier Quarter above it, allowing easy access to the whole area.
