The article addresses the way in which the growing use of the social media is changing the employment relationship. Technology has given rise to a huge increase in the amount of information about employees available to employers, while allowing them to engage in intrusive monitoring of employee access to the internet and social media. This highlights the importance of the regulatory techniques which are dealt with in the article, mainly from a Continental European perspective. An earlier version of this paper was presented by the Author on May 7, 2018, at the conference “Social Media and Workers’ Rights” organized by the Labour Law & Social Security Forum at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
