Hypotheses on the local effects of the Alexandrine schism · By comparing two passages from two distinct works by Boncompagno da Signa it is perhaps possible to discern the ideological bases of the Florentine participation both in the League of Tuscia (1197) and in the alliance with Pope Innocent III (1198). These bases were also constituted by a mystifying reinterpretation of the recent past. A special role in this re-reading was reserved for the attitude of the Florentine leadership at the time of the Alexandrine schism (1159-1177).
