Recent studies on autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for motorcycles suggest that the maximum automatic deceleration values initially recommended (namely 3 m/s2) may be too conservative, given that average motorcyclists were proven able to handle higher decelerations. In this study we performed numerical simulations of five motorcycle crash cases – for which detailed crash reports and drive- through investigation were available – and computed the potential effects that a motorcycle AEB would have had, assuming different intervention parameters.

Abstract
Recent studies on autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for motorcycles suggest that the maximum automatic deceleration values initially recommended (namely 3 m/s2) may be too conservative, given that average motorcyclists were proven able to handle higher decelerations. In this study we performed numerical simulations of five motorcycle crash cases – for which detailed crash reports and drive- through investigation were available – and computed the potential effects that a motorcycle AEB would have had, assuming different intervention parameters.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
