Sudden cardiac arrest in a 73-year-old woman caused by systemic capillary leak syndrome

A typical prodromal phase is characterized by generalized weakness, myalgia and, occasionally, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea (“leak” phase) [1]. Diagnosis is by exclusion of other causes of shock, including sepsis. The mortality rate during a severe acute episode is estimated around 80 % [3]. The 10-year survival rate ranges from 25 to 70 % [1, 3].
