We present a linearly polarized series-array antenna, suitable for vehicular communications in the framework of the Intelligent Transportation System. The array is printed on a commercial substrate, and it is optimized for maximum compactness and best realized gain. Experimental validations confirm a maximum gain of 8 dB at 5.8 GHz and 5 dB at 5.9 GHz, enabling both Electronic Toll Collection according to the dedicated short range communication protocol as well as low-latency WiFi operation for vehicular communications according to the novel 802.11p standard.
