La Venezia analogica di Ruskin. Osservazioni intorno a I caratteri urbani delle città venete

Nell'analisi de “I caratteri urbani delle città venete”, Aldo Rossi ricostruisce la genesi di un territorio che dalla Lombardia giunge al Friuli, ma che potrebbe estendersi fino a comprendere altre città dell’Oriente. La sua ricerca parte da una lettura dell’organizzazione romana del territorio per soffermarsi sulle mura come fatto urbano e approfondire i caratteri delle città venete, con un particolare riguardo alla tipologia e all'edilizia gotiche. Essa giunge, infine, all'architettura palladiana, alla città neoclassica e romantica e alla sospensione della stessa tra realtà e mito tipica dell’Ottocento. John Ruskin è l’autore che forse più di tutti ha contribuito ad alimentare il mito di una Venezia romantica e decadente. Il presente contributo intende tentare di ricostruire quella che Rossi definisce «la Venezia analogica di Ruskin», con lo scopo di indagare il ruolo svolto da “The Stones of Venice” nella creazione di una certa idea/immagine della città e nella più concreta definizione dei caratteri gotici della sua architettura e della sua ‘forma urbis’. In the analysis of "I caratteri urbani delle città venete", Aldo Rossi reconstructs the genesis of a territory that stretches from Lombardy to Friuli, but that could extend to include other cities in the East. His research begins with a reading of the Roman organization of the territory, then dwells on the walls as an urban fact and delves into the characteristics of the Venetian cities, with particular regard to Gothic typology and construction. It arrives, finally, to Palladian architecture, to the neoclassical and romantic city and to its suspension between reality and myth typical of the nineteenth century. John Ruskin is the author who perhaps more than anyone else has contributed to the myth of a romantic and decadent Venice. The present contribution intends to attempt to reconstruct what Rossi defines as «Ruskin's analogical Venice», with the aim of investigating the role played by “The Stones of Venice” in the creation of a certain idea/image of the city and in the more concrete definition of the Gothic features of its architecture and its 'forma urbis'.
