The introductive note traces back and highlights the main references of the Carlo Doglio lesson to the rich heritage of utopian and anarchist thinking in the field of urban and settlement planning. Moreover it also refers the article to the current issues at stake concerning especially the role and conception of environment and ecosystem in supporting a real and not shallow approach to sustainble planning and design.
